Мы можем использовать их, чтобы активировать такие убеждения, как «цель не оправдывает средства». Но корректирующие программы должны быть направлены так, чтобы воздействовать на убеждения, оправдывающие насилие: эгоцентризм и групповой эгоизм, стремление к наказанию и возмездию, размывание ответственности; внутренние установки, разрешающие и оправдывающие применение насилия.
Хотя многие исследователи, такие как Джервис, Снайдер и Дизинг, Верцбергер, Тетлок и Уайт, выявили ошибки в образе мышления национальных лидеров, эти знания пока не нашли практического применения [361]. Аналогично сделаны лишь первые шаги по изменению мышления членов враждующих этнических групп.
